For everything that's been said about UC's awesome win last night (which it was), none can be more apt than "classy." Which is what was exemplified by Marty Gilyard (see clip). Wow. One of the classiest things I've seen in a long time, nonetheless from a college athlete.
By the way, when's the last time that "classy" has been associatied with this university? Remember when it was associated with Bob Chuggins? Bob Thuggins? Kudos to the athletic department and AD Mike Thomas.

Bengals Prison Van
Saw this while messing around on youtube. I can't say I've seen this down at PBS, but I think it's hilarious. Maybe they need to haul the whole team away, because their current play is criminal! (drum roll)

Crowley Must Read The Nati Life
David Crowley must've read the previous post on electric cars and immediately proposed this ordinance. I'm glad I can do my part. No need to thank me, David, I'm just doing my civil duty.

Electric Avenue

Check out this article in USA Today on the new electric car stations that are popping up in urban areas. It's no surprise that Seattle and Portland are those which are pioneering this effort. With all the focus as of late on Cincy being a trendsetter, or at least early follower - see the new bike efforts - could we be far behind? You're probably nodding your head "yes" at this point, but can you see something like in the 'Nati?

Another Lost Sunday
Just when you think it can't get much worse. Who in their right mind honestly thought the Bengals would win a game, especially against the Steelers? You can bet the Bengals didn't think the Bengals were going to win it! With all these elections going on, the local politicos should be making campaign promises to get a professional football team in town!
Damn, do they suck!

Tower Place Takes a (Further) Step Back
Seems as though the newest tenant for the struggling Tower Place mall is "A Dollar." This flies in the face of all the progress that Downtown has made in the past few years. Tower Place is such a desireable location, but the fact remains that indoor malls in the urban core dead. Downtown shopping should take the form of storefront stores with upscale brands and independent boutiques alike (think Chicago's "Magnificent Mile").
To maximize that space, ownership needs to step outside the box. Either focus on large-scale entertainment, such as a movie theater or a Lucky Strike - type "eatertainment "concept. I sympathize with ownership. They have to pay the bills. But it's too bad. I firmly believe the highest and best use of that facility is not an indoor shopping mall.

(Damn, I Hate the) Bengals Report
Not really. I don't hate them. But I hate what that franchise does to this city. I hate what it stands for. I hate that Mike Brown can't manage to change thinks - even for the sake of change of them. I hate that Mike Brown doesn't realize that with every loss, he puts a dent into our civic pride. And worst of all, I hate that it will never change while he is still Owner and President.
And the ruining of generations continues (much of this is a heads up from thelotd):

*Mike Brown admits a high school's facilities are better than the Bengals... what's he going to do about it? NADT.

*Sporting News headline says it all: "Bengals Back to Setting Standard for Misery"
*NEWSFLASH: Bengals fans don't want to go to games! I don't believe it!
*Gotta love WhoDeyRevolution: "Bratkowski Blames the World." HAHA!
*50 yard line, 22nd row tix for this weekend are going for just $81.00 apiece. Will anyone buy them? How embarassing.
*I'm putting the over/under on Terrible Towels seen on Sunday at PBS at 8,001. Any takers?
*Pics are of LookAtMeShirts... great stuff!
And the ruining of generations continues (much of this is a heads up from thelotd):

*Mark Mallory is predicting a win and wants our unconditional support??? Look, I love Mark Mallory. I think he's great. And I know he's trying to instill pride. Good for him. But to show support for this kind of ineptitude and such a flagrant refusal to try to win is absurd. Cue the annoying "Mayor Zero" posts. Although no one has yet to explain to me exactly what that means. Is there some history behind this?
*Mike Brown admits a high school's facilities are better than the Bengals... what's he going to do about it? NADT.
"Massillon High School is ahead of us," observed Cincinnati Bengals President Mike Brown, the eldest son of legendary Massillon, Browns and Bengals coach Paul Brown. "We don't have one [an indoor practice facility].... My father believed in the football program being on the cutting edge. Today, this indoor facility certainly is on the cutting edge for high school football, and it's consistent with what he did many, many years ago."*Talk show host Alan Cutler wonders if we should have even paid for PBS

UC v. Rutgers... "Where the Momentum Began"

Check out this article in the New York Times about the last meeting of UC and Rutgers at the Nip, which propelled the two teams in opposite directions.
You can bet that when the Scarlet Knights come in this Saturday, they'll be some heavy chips on shoulders. I can't WAIT to see this game!
In related news, CBS predicts the Bearcats to win the Big East and play Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl! That would be HUGE!
Here's their breakdown:
The ACC champion is locked to the Orange Bowl and CBSSports.com projects Virginia Tech will claim that honor. The Orange Bowl gets the last pick in the BCS bowl selection process and takes Big East champion Cincinnati. If the Big East champion gets picked, look for the Orange Bowl to get BYU or maybe even Boise State or Utah.

Cubs Suck! Cubs Suck! Cubs Suck!
HAHAHA! I think the only thing worse than following a moribund franchise here locally is having a great regular season, making the playoffs and getting swept in embarassing fashion. You've got to love the ineptitude of a franchise that lasts for 100 years. Screw the Cubs and all their annoying fans who plague the GABP every season.

VeePee Debate - Fair and Balanced Instant Reaction!
First of all, in my car I heard a great promo for the debate - "the Delaware Dasher versus the Temptress from the Tundra." Hilarious!
Here are the debate notes. Pretty extensive, but I think you'll enjoy!
*Palin seemed nervous at first, somewhat of shakey voice, she regained composure, but nervous is NOT good
*Palin's candor... um, yeah... ("Darn right it was predatory lenders!" "Joe Six Pack, hockey moms around the nation,") not liking the wink though
*Biden seems like he's about to kick the bucket. What is up with his right eye?
*Biden just straight up called Palin out about not answering the question about regulation, I think that's the first time we've seen this in the debates!
*How about Biden just laughing in her face? That can't go over well... woman or otherwise
*Like how Palin calls the Obama plan "redistribution of wealth" and her numerous call-outs of the federal government. I'm digging the McCain health plan giving me the choice. Not bad.
*9:19 - Biden just laughed at her again. Then reiterates his small-town roots. Pretty lame. Wow, I just realized how much she REALLY DOES look like Tina Fey! I think she got new glasses...
*Biden's speaking pretty well. Ooh, cheap shot on the "bridge to nowhere." He's a much better speaker than previously shown.
*They just showed Palin from the back. Daaaaammmnnnn! I think she's dropped a few LBs!
*Biden just dropped a "that's what I'm talkin' about." Trying to get hip on us?
*Biden just laughed again! Staring straight at her! And again! I feel like this isn't going to go over well. And again a smug little smirk! Dude just needs to stare at the notepad and stfu!
*She's getting better and more comfortable as time goes on. Impressive.
*9:28 - Biden just slipped up. He said that he and Obama disagree on their economic views. I assume he meant that Obama and McCain... confused.
*Another condescending smile from Biden. Dude, it's getting old.
*Palin's using "heckovalot" quite a bit.
*I feel like Palin's stance on climate change - not ALL man-made - is going to take some heat. I happen to agree with her, but she should have emphasized that it is largely due to the fault of man.
*9:32 - Biden used "Joe Biden" in third person. HAHA!
*9:34 - Another condescending smile. A slippery slope. And another laugh.
*Biden said the Constitution calls for same-sex rights... not sure about that.
*Palin used "tolerant" when it came to same-sex relationships. Not sure how well it will go over.
*Wow, she's much better at this than McCain. Especially when it comes to the Iraq issue. I still don't get the idea of a timeline which Obama and Biden are for. It just doesn't make sense to me to tell your enemy when you plan on quitting.
*Another laugh by Biden. Continued smiles. 9:47 - another smug smile. Wow.
*Palin takes the hard stance on Iran, Biden said that they're not a threat. Hmmm.
*Gotta agree w/ Palin on Obama meeting these dictators without precondition. That seems crazy.
*Another third-person reference by Biden. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with Jimmy. "Jimmy's got moves! Down goes Jimmy!"
*Another "Maverick" reference by Palin. I think it's funny.
*Did Biden get botox?
*Biden keeps repeating himself. Fairly annoying. 10:00 - while Palin's talking, Biden is talking to himself.
*10:01 - finally some smug smiling by Palin. Payback!
*Nice plug for joebiden.com... is he getting ad revenue I wonder?
*Biden smile #... I lost count
*Palin's accent makes "blunders" sound like "blenders"
*Palin referred to her and McCain as a "team of mavericks," oh brother.
*Biden is a fan of Home Depot... wonder if they're a contributor... hmmmm
*More hometown name-drops by Biden.
*10:12 - A "gosh darnit" and "doggonit" by Palin. Oh no. And a shout out to her brother's third grade class and getting extra credit for watching the debate. Again, oh no.
*10:16 - Biden is violently itching his face while she's talking. That's weird. Fleas?
*10:27 - Nothing's been said in the last 10+ minutes. Yawn.
Closing Statements
*Palin quoting Reagan for the second time. Niiiice.
*Biden - more small-town cred.
Seems like a draw to me. Can't wait to see the SNL spoof!

Quote of the Week!

When asked by John Fay of the Enquirer of his plans for next season (the speculation being that he would retire), Reds pitcher Kent Mercker answered: "Turning vodka into urine."
Fantastic!
