Let's All Pile on Downtown...

UPDATE: See the Enquirer's politics blog post for more, as well as reaction from village idiots!

Bill Cunningham ran with the recent story on Downtown's safety, interviewing the reporter who shacked up Downtown for a night to observe first-hand the cesspool of crime that is Downtown Cincinnati.

Click here for Willie's objective coverage (start it at 6:45, and don't bother listening after the interview, Willie doesn't discuss it for the remainder of the hour)

Oh, and it's a good think he gets in a knock on the streetcar there at the end.

And check out 5chw4r7z's post in reaction to the story, I love his comment:

"Isn't the old media kinda like the uncool kid who, not understanding or even wanting to join the party, spends all his energy trying to drag everyone else down?"

Something Old, Something New

A good article about Middle Earth Development and their Downtown activity...
If you're not familiar with Middle Earth, they're doing some neat things in and around Downtown, with their premier project being Parker Flats.

News 5 will be running a story tonight on "How safe is Downtown?" Don't know if it's in a positive or negative light, but the voice-over on the promo seemed ominous.

I will post the story once it is up on WLWT's website.

Be sure to watch tonight at 5:00 and post your feedback here.

GABP Ranks #13

In a recent fan survey by Sports Illustrated, GABP ranked #13 overall in MLB.

This perplexes me. Such a new stadium and a great place to watch a game. It's cheap, fan friendly, has great local food and knowledgeable fans. And it ranks #13 out of 30?

What really bothered me was the ranking of "history and tradition" category: 7. I can't think of a better way than how the Reds integrated the powerful tradition that the franchise has carried. Especially given that they've included what's widely regarded as the best team hall of fame in the country.

The biggest detractors obviously would be the product on the field (#23 overall) and neighborhood (#17 overall, which is surprising given that it is in the current wasteland of the Banks).

Best piece of fan feedback in the survey:

What is the worst incident you've witnessed against an opposing fan or
yourself?

"Watching the Reds' bullpen last year."
