So after taking a few days to digest what went down on Friday night, here are my reactions and game notes:
*Very impressed with Obama's speaking ability. Even though neither candidate really said much, Obama said (lack of) "it" better.
*Love the bracelet wars... especially since the family who gave Obama his bracelet doesn't approve of his use of it.
*Obama well-versed on the stats. He could rattle them off pretty well to back up his points. Even Fox News' Dick Morris agrees, much to Hannity's dismay:
*McCain did pretty well pointing out Obama's inexperience, especially in foreign policy. Like the whole bit about legitimizing Ahmedenijad by having a face-to-face without precondition. That's just absurdity.
*No mention of McCain's proposed suspension??? If it was such a great idea, why didn't he even bring it up? At least explain it better given the opportunity.
*The bottom line. McCain beats Obama in terms of foreign policy. Obama wins in terms of economic relief. Obama wins overall on account of his ability to effectively attack McCain's policies and stances. McCain loses on account of his own ineptitued and inability to adequately defend himself and let Obama off the hook for some of his questionable politics.
Now check out SNL's parody on the debate. Not sure why this is supposed to be funny, except for the "race card" bit, and even more overtly partisan than the previous one. But let me know what you think:
*And now, as soon as this is coming to an end, this messed up bailout is going to be passed before the opening of business Monday AM. And don't worry, we'll get prepped by President Bush before-hand... at 7:30!
*And speaking of our financial crisis... why the hell is no one making a big deal out of the fact that Clinton blatantly stated that the Dems are heavily to blame here?

See...this is why I dislike conservatives.
It's all about regurgitating the first "fact" you hear and spreading it around. There's no checking other points of view or even finding the nuance of a situation. It's either you're with us or against us, McCain good, Obama bad, McCain got permission to use his dead soldier bracelet, Obama didn't.
It couldn't possibly be that different family members feel differently about the use of the bracelet - but that the MOTHER who gave Obama the bracelet in the first place approves. And that newspapers and blogs everywhere that wrote otherwise are having to print "updates" and "retractions".
I suggest you join the club.
Oh Deborah, I don't think we'll ever see eye-to-eye. But hey, I just calls 'em like I sees 'em!
